MOVIE MAGIC: If you ever met Harry Potter
in real life, do you think that you would be friends?
DANIEL RADCLIFFE: Absolutely. I like his
curiosity, and his loyalty. And his magic powers too. He's so serious, but at the same time he can be very funny.
MOVIE MAGIC: Do you believe in magic?
DANIEL: I've always believed in magic, a
hundred percent. I'm fascinated by it actually.
MOVIE MAGIC: What was your favourite scene
in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets?
DANIEL: I like the Chamber of Secrets scene
a lot. I think the dialogue between myself and Tom Riddle was awesome. It was really very intense, but I also like the dueling
scene, because there's alot of action, plus it's a very cool scene.
MOVIE MAGIC: Did you have to study fencing
for the dueling scene?
DANIEL: Oh, we basically learned it from
the other actors---- like Kenneth Branagh and Alan Rickman. They went up first and they were doing it. There's a certain salute
before you start the duel apparently, so that was quite fun to learn. Also, I had to learn parseltongue as well.
MOVIE MAGIC: You had to learn what?
DANIEL: Parseltongue. It's a snake's language
that Harry speaks in the book.
MOVIE MAGIC: What did you find most challenging
about this movie?
DANIEL: I think the same two scenes that
I just mentioned as my favourites were also the most challenging. There's so much dialogue in the Chamber of Secrets scene
-- we had to keep it going and we had to keep it very intense in order to keep the audiance's attention. Also, the dueling
scene was very hard because we had to speak parseltongue. Because it's a completely different language, I had to study it
and learn a bit, and it's quite hard to say.
MOVIE MAGIC: How many takes did you have
to do for the dueling scene?
DANIEL: The whole scene... Probably well
over 100.
MOVIE MAGIC: Did you have more fun making
Chamber of Secrets than Sorcerer's Stone?
DANIEL: I probably did, because it was alot
more challenging.
MOVIE MAGIC: How did Harry change from his
first year at Hogwarts than his second year?
DANIEL: In the first book... well, at least
at the end of the film... Harry says "Well, I'm not going home, not really." And I think that's very true, because in the
first book, Harry's discovering that Hogwart's is really his home. And then, in the second film he's trying to protect it.
In the first he's reactive, and in the second he's proactive.
MOVIE MAGIC: And how has your life changed
in the year between the release of Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets?
DANIEL: It really hasn't changed that much.
People come up to me on the street and they see my face on like 50-foot-high billboards. I know that sounds like big changes,
but it's really not as big as what could have happened. When people come up to me on the street now, I actually don't mind
it at all, because they always seem to be really enthusiastic about the film. They just want to know about the film-- it's
so great talking to them.
MOVIE MAGIC: So, it's fun being famous?
DANIEL: I don't really consider myself famous.
People like Anthony Hopkins and Robert De Niro are famous. They are famous because they are very experienced and amazing actors,
and I've only done, like, a few things. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was only the fourth thing I've ever
been in, so I can't be compared in any way to them. But I think being on those billboards-- yeah, that was definitely fun.
MOVIE MAGIC: Has your family life changed
at all?
DANIEL: I don't think Mum and Dad would let
me change! We do the same things we always did. We go on holidays. I see my friends, ride my bike, watch TV. I would like
to go and see Fulham (Soccer Team) more, but I haven't had the chance.
MOVIE MAGIC: Do you still have to do chores
when you are at home?
DANIEL: Yeah, unfortunately.
MOVIE MAGIC: What kind of chores do you have
to do?
DANIEL: Make my bed and tidy my room-- my
new room, because I've moved rooms now.
MOVIE MAGIC: And what's your new room like?
Can you describe it?
DANIEL: Tall. It's right at the top of the
house, and I can look out into the sky, which is cool. And I've got my own space now that I'm a teenager.
MOVIE MAGIC: That's right, you just turned
13 this past year. What's the best thing that's happened to you since you've officially been a teenager?
DANIEL: The best thing in the past year,
you mean since getting Harry Potter? Hmmm, I think probably the premiere was one of the best things. Both premieres--in London
and New York. And the whole publicity tour. Also, my voice changed between the two films, and it felt perfectly natural. Harry
Potter, unlike Peter Pan, is the boy who grows up. So, he is going to change and develope and that is what is exciting about
playing him.
MOVIE MAGIC: What made the publicity tour
so fun?
DANIEL: Because I really like interviews.
I'm not just saying that. I do really enjoy being interviewed. And also, I just liked the premiere-- there was so much energy
about it. And I got to meet Ben Stiller. I met Ben Stiller at the English premiere.
MOVIE MAGIC: I bet Ben Stiller was saying,
"I met Daniel Radcliffe."
DANIEL: That would be funny.
MOVIE MAGIC: How has your relationship with
Emma and Rupert grown or changed?
DANIEL: I think we've all kind of matured
just as our characters have matured. And I think we're still just really good friends. We're really, really good friends.
MOVIE MAGIC: Did you guys get together between
the premiere and the start of Chamber of Secrets? Were you able to spend any off-screen time all together?
DANIEL: We kept working a lot of the time,
but we didn't actually see each other out of premieres and working. But we see so much of each other then, that I don't think
that Rupert or Emma really want to see me anymore. [Laughs]
MOVIE MAGIC: Are you looking forward to reading
the fifth book-- The Order of the Pheonix?
DANIEL: I'm really looking forward to it.
I think that it is going to be a really cool book. The only thing is, I'm worrying about it being bigger than the fourth book!
MOVIE MAGIC: Has J.K. Rowling told you any
of the stuff that's going to happen with Harry and his friends in The Order of the Pheonix?
DANIEL: No, unfortunately not. I'd like to
know, though. I kind of want to know, but then I kind of want it to be a surprise.
MOVIE MAGIC: Do you see yourself continuing
to be an actor for the rest of your life?
DANIEL: I might like to be an actor, but
there are loads of other things I'm interested in as well, like music and writing and sports. I want to keep my options open.
Acting is definitely one of those things I'm interested in. I might go into directing, but I won't be able to do that for
awhile.
